Pirates are under absolutely no obligation what so ever to ransom anything or anyone. Piracy is about taking stuff for free, profiting from others and thats about it. To do so you blow their ships up and take what you want. If you think you'll profit more by ransoming then this is another option. If you chose to blow them up and pod them without any kind of comunication that is your perogative, or as your new victim is 1 1/2 years old you may decide that his implants are worth a tidy some to him and you.
Because of various posts on ransoming; New pirates and victims alike seem to believe that a ransom is a given. This is to the extent that I've heard stories of pirates trying to ransom ships that were too powerful for them and they got themselves killed. On the flip side I've seen many statements from victims along the lines of "you are a griefer you didn't even ransom me...you just blew me up blah blah blah".
So lets set the record straight. Pirates blow up your ship to take your stuff, if they feel like it they may ransom your ship but they lose the thrill of the explosion and the Xmas like suprise of looking inside your can and finding goodies or the halarity of discovering your shocking setup. They also may pod you..yes without question or ransom. They may not want some guy screaming in local alerting all the other potential targets of his presence, they may simple like the squelching sound of your pod exploading or they may feel that as a 1 week old noob you wont have implants and just aren't worth the effort.
The one thing I do agree with is that if you've asked for a ransom for a pod or ship and recieved the money without interference then you most definately should let them go.
Agreed. As a non-pirate, I understand that this is indeed the case. If I didn't like it I would just go play some other substandard game, but there is no game as good as EVE imho, so I adapt. The rest of the non-pirates need to do likewise.
Welcome to EVE, you ain't in [insert game name here] anymore...
